Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible

Black Draftee (James Hunter) by Alice Neel is prominently displayed in the inaugural exhibition at Met Breuer, New York, the Metropolitan Museum's outpost for contemporary art at the former Whitney Museum building designed by Marcel Breuer on Madison Avenue. Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible examines the issue of finish, the decisions artists make as to when a work reaches its conclusion. It includes works that were left incomplete alongside paintings that have the look of incompleteness but which their authors regarded as finished. The exhibition thus debates intentionality versus accident. The exhibition runs from 18 March until 14 September 2016.
