'Best exhibition of 2010'
Alice Neel: Painted Truths was considered by Anne Wagner the best exhibition of 2010 in an article in the December 2010 issue of Artforum and one of the top ten exhibitions of the year by Laura Cumming in the Observer (London). The show is now in its final month at Moderna Museet, Malmö (closing 2 January) following its successful showings at Museum of Fine Arts Houston and Whitechapel Gallery London. The exhibition in Sweden has been greeted with acclaim: 'The best painter you have not heard of yet. If you are only going to see one exhibition this year come to Malmö in the autumn holiday' (www.kunsten.nu); 'Moderna Museet gets with its largest exhibition ever a real hit.... This is simply a wonderful exhibition and Alice Neel an exceptional artist - a master painter with a sense of compostion and an empathetic, but never ingratiating view of humanity' (Dagens Nyheter); 'This is such a show that I did not know how long in advance I longed for. Powerful and intense.' (www.omkonst.se) For information on Moderna Museet click here. Malmö is twenty minutes by train from Copenhagen airport.
The exhibition catalogue is now out of print but copies in English and in Swedish may still be purchased from Moderna Museet. Yale University Press is reprinting the catalogue in paperback.
